Yes, Taj of Marin is closed but, luckily, my wife and I visited yesterday and found out that Taj of Marin restaurant has recently been sold and taken over by a new 'South Indian" cuisine specialists - SUVAI, TASTE OF INDIA (Specializing in authentic Dosas, Idli and more) including North Indian Veg/Non-Veg Buffet. When you go there, see the new sign board - it is named SUVAI - TASTE OF INDIA restaurant. The new manager advised us that they are in the middle of getting name change permit (new sign board, etc) from the City of San Rafael. We advised them to get on board with Yelp ASAP. They said they will - very soon. They serve authentic South Indian Food. They are still continuing to serve the popular Veg/Non-Veg Buffet. We ordered two Dosas, They were absolutely superb! This review is about the new Restaurant (SUVAI-TASTE OF INDIA). They have completely renovated the restaurant. Staff was very friendly, attentive and caring. It is rare to get authentic South Indian Food in Marin County. This is the place! Check it out folks. Our best wishes are with them.

A revised review: We had a glitch in our online order and the owner, Amal, couldn't have been nicer about making things right. The food here is wonderful and it's a pleasure to dine in as well as eat out. The staff is wonderful, and love the vegetian dishes as well as the mixed grill.

Went for buffet lunch on Tuesday. We were the first patrons at 11:45, and the buffet food had already been sitting out and open. Not sure for how long? Food was standard basic offering, taste and quality seemed generally good, some items like the fried vegetables fritters had been sitting awhile, therefore cold and soggy. Tandoori chicken was tender but had not been marinated well, so inside meat was bland. Made to order naan was good. San Rafael has 3-4 other Indian lunch buffets. This one doesn't have as much variety as the others, so they don't seem to get as much business for a good turn over of the food.

Love this place! The food is expertly prepared, the seasonings spot on. The lunch buffet is sumptuous, so many choices, all delicious. A great way to sample the many flavors of Indian cuisine, from appetizers to desserts. I adore the Tandoori chicken. The service is top notch, the ambiance is lovely, and everything is very clean. Delightful.
